Diversity Club
Advisor: Mrs. Khawaja
Students in the Diversity Club will explore how to contribute to a kind school environment and will discuss similarities and differences when it comes to ethnic and cultural background, learning abilities, families, etc. We will have art projects, movie and book discussions, and create school wide events to promote diversity. The club meets every other Thursday.

Drama Club
The SMS Drama Club performs a play or musical every year in our auditorium. Students audition for parts, apply to work backstage, making props, or marketing.

Time Commitment: Rehearsals once/week on Wednesdays, more often during Drama Club production.
SMS Elite Voices is an auditioned choral group that performs at many events throughout the year, including the Winter and Spring Concerts, the Drama Club production and more.

FCCLA Club

FCCLA stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools through grade 12. Since 1945, FCCLA members have been making a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
Students in the FCCLA Club will take part in the following activities:

Math Olympiads
Advisor: Ms. Cindy Davis
Suffield Middle School is excited to participate in the Math Olympiads program! This world-wide math competition is offered to students who enjoy solving challenging math problems, both by themselves and with others, and earning rewards for their efforts. By being selected to the Math Olympiad team, your child will participate in monthly contests and also participate in one monthly training session prior to each of the contests.

Photo Club
Advisor: Ms. Michelle Killam
Students the SMS Photo Club have opportunities to better photographers by learning about what makes a good photograph. Students practice their skills while photographing school activities and sporting events. Students are encouraged to submit their photos to be used by the Yearbook Club.
Pit Crew

The Pit Crew provides supporting vocals for the Drama Club production.
Reading Club
Advisor: Mrs. Khawaja
The Reading Club will meet every Thursday from mid-September through mid-May, unless otherwise noted in the schedule below. During meetings, students will relax while reading books of their choice, discuss them with their classmates and compete in trivia games.

Strategic Gaming Club
Advisor: Ms. Lori Hunt
Suffield Middle School Strategic Gaming Club has partnered with the Suffield Youth Center and Senior Center. Strategic Gaming will meet twice a month on Wednesday after school until 4:00. We will walk from the Middle School to the Youth Center on Bridge Street and partner with seniors to enjoy some snacks and games. You must have your own transportation home - the late bus will not be able to pick us up at the Youth Center.

Student Council

Time Commitment: Various Meetings & School Functions
Suffield Middle School’s Student Council is made up of 3 officers, as well as 5 grade level representatives from grades 7 and 8. All of our members are elected by the student body in a formal election with video speeches and digital voting. The officers and representatives seek to understand students’ thoughts and desires and provide feedback on any proposed or existing activity ideas, convey them to the Council and advisors. Officers and representatives provide a voice for students. Being a member of the SMS Student Council means being willing to put in the long hours required to make something happen: executing an event, making registration documents, posters, or SMS News commercials, being a Student Ambassador at Open House or Parent/Teacher Conferences, community service or being a facilitator at Student Council events. As a whole, the Council works to foster a sense of school spirit by leading initiatives and conducting events that bring the Suffield Middle community together. The Council strives to understand, embody, and communicate the values that define our middle school.
Writing Club

The focus of the Writing Club is to provide student writers of all levels a place to connect with other writers and to enable and empower them to achieve their goals as they choose their genre and audience.
