Art Club

Students in the Art Club will take part in the following activities:

  • Making masks, costumes and backdrops for the school play
  • Painting school murals and teacher’s desks

Drama Club

The SMS Drama Club performs a play or musical every year in our auditorium. Students audition for parts, apply to work backstage, making props, or marketing.


Elite Voices

Advisor: Laura Noonan

Time Commitment: Rehearsals once/week on Wednesdays, more often during Drama Club production.

SMS Elite Voices is an auditioned choral group that performs at many events throughout the year, including the Winter and Spring Concerts, the Drama Club production and more.


Giraffe Club

The SMS Giraffe Club is a group of students willing to stick their necks out for others. Together, we perform various acts of community service throughout Suffield and surrounding towns.

This year, the SMS Giraffe Club will be partnering with the Suffield Emergency Aid Association on several exciting activities: The Election Day Food Drive, Holiday Gift/Meal Baskets, the Community Garden, and Back-to-School Backpack and Supplies Collection. The SMS Giraffe Club members will also be honoring local veterans, volunteer at a soup kitchen, and many other exciting activities.

Jr. SWAT Team

In an effort to promote student leadership, address technology competencies, and encourage collaboration between teachers, students, and parents, Suffield Public Schools is excited to offer our innovative Students Working to Advance Technology program. S.W.A.T. members work closely with faculty, students, and staff to support district technology both in and out of the classroom. We act as liaisons to the Technology Committee as well as assist users in the District's increased emphasis on technology as a vital tool for learning and collaboration in today's educational environment.

Marketing and Communications Group

Advisor: Mrs. Laura Noonan

Time Commitment: Meetings are on Wednesday until the show.

This group provides marketing and communications support for the SMS Spring Musical.


Math Olympiads

Students will share strategies for solving multi-step problems in a small group, relaxed setting. They will participate in contests, given to other students world-wide. Each contest is done at Suffield Middle School.

Promise Club

Advisor: Ms. Lori Hunt

P.R.O.M.I.S.E. Project  is sponsored by the Capital Area Substance Abuse Council, Inc.

Reading Club

Advisor: Mrs. Khawaja

The Reading Club will meet every Thursday from mid-September through mid-May, unless otherwise noted in the schedule below. During meetings, students will relax while reading books of their choice, discuss them with their classmates and compete in trivia games.

Time Commitment: Various Meetings & School Functions

Student Council offers many school events for students @ SMS. (Ex: Tie-Dye Social, Dances, Spirit Month... and for students of McAlister School: TGIS,TGIF, Dinner & Variety Show; Dinner & a Play) Student council advisors encourage young leaders to: take initiative & step up to earn respect; draw others to follow their lead; Have compassion to build trust; Demonstrate understanding as a way to form meaningful interpersonal relationships within the group; Listening to issues of others in group & actually being involved in these issues serves as an inclusion tool.
