The Connecticut Association of Schools has designated Suffield Middle School as a middle school with “Exemplary Teaming Practices”
We join six other middle schools in the state for this recognition including Albert D. Griswold Middle School, Canton Middle School, Chippens Hill Middle School, Dodd Middle School, Mansfield Middle School and Mystic Middle School.

To achieve this recognition, the middle school staff undertook an extensive self-assessment regarding their use and implementation of curriculum integration, collaborative decision-making, parent and community involvement and flexible grouping and scheduling.  We were visited by a team from CAS in January who verified and validated our self-assessment.  We now have a three- year “exemplary practices” designation from CAS as a school that utilizes “exemplary teaming practices” and serve as a model for other schools wishing to improve.

Message from the Principal

This We Believe...
We have chosen to be middle level educators; for we recognize that the years of early adolescence are pivotal and abound with individual potential and opportunity.  Therefore, we will care for these students personally, listen to their voices, respect their concerns and engage them in meaningful educational experiences that will prepare them for a promising future.

We believe that every young adolescent…

Ø  Has the capacity to learn, grow and develop into a knowledgeable, reflective, caring, ethical, and contributing citizen. Ø  Must have access to the very best programs and practices a school can offer. Ø  Must be engaged in learning that is relevant, challenging, integrative, and exploratory. Ø  Thrives academically, socially, and emotionally in a democratic learning environment where trust and respect are paramount and where family and community are actively involved. Ø  Faces significant life choices and needs support in making wise and healthy decisions. Ø  Deserves educators who are prepared to work with this age group, who are themselves lifelong learners and committed to their own ongoing professional development and growth. Therefore, we proudly dedicate ourselves to becoming the best middle level educators we can be and active advocates for all young adolescents.
